What is La BiGi Bergamo

La BiGi is an innovative bike sharing model implemented by ATB on behalf of the Municipality of Bergamo and managed in collaboration with nextbike GmbH, a European leader in the sector, which, with the service inaugurated in Bergamo, arrives for the first time in Italy.

The bicycles are equipped with gears, GPS technology and locking systems that allow users to pick them up and drop them off at both ‘physical’ and ‘virtual’ stations.

The service

The system allows the use of bicycles both in ‘station-based’ mode, whereby the bicycle is returned to the cycle station, and in ‘free-floating’ mode; it has 38 ‘physical’ stations (equipped with racks) and 30 ‘virtual’ stations identified by specific areas marked on the asphalt. It is also possible to drop off in the ‘flex zone’, i.e. the specific streets marked on the map and on the app. The map of the new bike stations, available on the nextbike website and app, also shows the availability and location of the bikes.

The bikes are equipped with gearboxes, GPS technology and locking systems for parking or return, and there are 410 bikes in total, 20 of which are electric. Daily management and maintenance is overseen by the nextbike operations team.

How to use the service

To use the service, you need to register at on the dedicated website and download nextbike app, with which you scan the QR code on the rear mudguard or enter your bike number. The wheel is then unlocked and the bike can be used.

With a single account it is possible to rent up to four bikes at the same time and reserve your bike at no extra cost for up to 15 minutes before the rental. Via the app it is also possible to park the bike temporarily and pick it up later, ending the rental only at the end of actual use.

Nextbike guarantees 24-hour telephone assistance by answering the Italian number 035 0365451 for the cost of a normal call.

In the event of accidents involving property or persons, the person concerned must contact nextbike customer care.
