How to get around the city by car
From Città Alta and Città Bassa if you visit Bergamo by car you need to know the location and times of the Restricted Traffic Zones.
How to reach Bergamo by car
Bergamo can be reached from the A4 Milan-Venice motorway (Bergamo exit), which is then connected to the city centre and the province by a system of ring roads.
The city can also be reached from the valleys: Val Seriana, Valle Brembana, Valle Imagna and Val Cavallina.
Città Alta
To protect the architectural heritage and promote tourism, the old part of the city is mainly pedestrianised.
The entire Upper Town is also closed to traffic on specific days and times corresponding with peak times. Here the details.
During the opening hours of the LTZ of Upper Town is allowed access only if you use the following car parks: Porta Sant'Alessandro, via Tre Armi and the parking in via della Fara. The only LTZ gate that can be used to reach these car parks is the one located at the Conca d'Oro roundabout in Viale Vittorio Emanuele II.
Vehicles taller than 3,5 meters and longer than 10,5 meters cannot enter the Upper Town, but can park in the park on Via Spino, except on the days of the local market (on Monday).
The connection to the Upper Town is provided by ATB buses.
IMPORTANT: Private vehicles may never enter the forecourt in front of the lower station of Bergamo City Funicular.
Città Bassa
Within Lower City there are numerous parking facilities and parking spaces on blue stripes.
Free parking spaces for interchanging with public transport routes are also available along the main access routes to the city.
The restricted traffic zones in Bergamo Bassa can be consulted on this page.
