How to get around the city by car

From Città Alta and Città Bassa if you visit Bergamo by car you need to know the location and times of the Restricted Traffic Zones.

How to reach Bergamo by car

Bergamo can be reached from the A4 Milan-Venice motorway (Bergamo exit), which is then connected to the city centre and the province by a system of ring roads.

The city can also be reached from the valleys: Val Seriana, Valle Brembana, Valle Imagna and Val Cavallina.

Città Alta

To protect the architectural heritage and promote tourism, the old part of the city is mainly pedestrianised.

There are parking spaces on blue stripes along Viale delle Mura and on Via della Fara.

There is also uncovered parking next to the start of the San Vigilio funicular.

The entire Upper Town is also closed to traffic on specific days and times corresponding with peak times. Here the details.

Vehicles taller than 3.5 metres cannot enter the Upper Town but must park in the tourist Via Rovelli bus park. The connection to the Upper Town is provided by ATB buses. Costs and conditions of the service can be found at Easy Access page.

IMPORTANT: Private vehicles may never enter the forecourt in front of the lower station of Bergamo City Funicular.

Città Bassa

Within Lower City there are numerous parking facilities and parking spaces on blue stripes.

Free parking spaces for interchanging with public transport routes are also available along the main access routes to the city.

The restricted traffic zones in Bergamo Bassa can be consulted on this page.
